We’re wrapping up the final Fonda Loves of 2024 with our curation of Christmas markets, interesting art exhibitions, and a contemporary take on a Tennessee Williams classic.
Christmas Markets
Come December, the city is packed with Christmas markets. Though we love them all, here are two that are slightly more ‘out-of-the-box’:
- Yokimono Japanese Christmas Market, 6-8 Dec: Head to Dalston for a wide variety of goodies, such as ceramics, stationary, and jewellery, all made by Japanese artists.
- Christmas Independent Ceramics Market, 8 Dec: Bringing together 150 independent potters selling their unique wares, expect a wide variety of all things ceramics from tableware to sculptures.
Cat On a Hot Tin Roof | Until 1 Feb 2025
The Almeida is back with another Tennessee Williams play, this time a fresh revival of the 1955 ‘Cat On a Hot Tin Roof’ starring Daisy Edgar-Jones and Kingsley Ben-Adir. Following The Pollitts, an old money Southern cotton family, the three-act play explores divisions in the family as they gather for the patriarch’s birthday. Unsurprisingly, the hot ticket of the year sold out very quickly, so we’d sign up to their newsletter for updates as we think this may go the way of the Paul Mezcal Streetcar production with a possible West End transfer… fingers crossed!
The 80s: Photographing Britain | 21 November – 5 May 2025
The 1980s was one of the UK’s most critical decades, witnessing many social and political transformations under the Thatcher administration. Tracing the work of a diverse community of photographers, prepared to be inspired by stories situated in race uprisings, miner strikes, the AIDS pandemic, and gentrification.
It Will End In Tears, Pamela Phatsimo Sunstrum | Until 5 Jan 2025
Sunstrum’s first solo exhibition at a key UK institution tells a story of a ‘femme fatale’ film noir character who deviates from the norm and what happens when she doesn’t follow the status quo. Set in an imagined colonial outpost, Sunstrum’s drawings, paintings, and installations mirror her experience living in Africa, Southeast Asia, and North America.
Casa Agape | Until December 15th
A platform showcasing Latin America’s retail talent is currently hosting their pop-up at Notting Hill. Stocked with a cool curation of clothing and homeware from emerging Latin American brands like like Banzo, Fringe, and Onora Casa, we’ll definitely be doing our Christmas shopping here.
AdWomen | Until 28 April 2025
Exploring the history of women in advertising, the latest exhibition at The Museum of Brands showcases both the portrayal of stereotypes over the last century and creative women within the advertising industry.
